Companion Care (Bolton) Ltd describes itself as a locally owned veterinary practice, based inside a Pets at Home store. From the clinic’s own information, it’s set up for small-animal care with in-house diagnostics (lab work, X‑ray, blood pressure monitoring) and facilities for procedures and inpatient care (operating theatre, hospital ward, isolation).
Recent reviews are mixed but detailed: several owners describe serious-cat illness support (including a cat “days from dying from FIP”) with clear explanations of what needed to happen, while others report concerns about repeat appointments they felt were unnecessary, and one account of an anxious dog consultation where the owner felt the vet didn’t examine properly and moved quickly to sedation/steroids. Owners also mention practical elements such as booster reminders and an efficient flea/worm prescription service.

honestly the best vets i have ever been to, they saved my cats life when she was days from dying from fip. nancy and eva are so empathetic, and make it extremely clear to you what needs to happen for your pet and in their best interest. i never felt pushed for money, or like anyone at all was ‘money hungry’ the complete opposite actually. my cat was treated so so well, i never worried about leaving her when she was at her most vulnerable, and i never worried about the care she was receiving. she is quite a timid cat with new people, everytime she sees nancy it’s like she’s seeing her family, she’s so herself🩷 i would recommend this vets to absolutely anyone, especially someone who thinks their cat could have fip! my cat is now living her best life, the healthiest she’s ever been :) thank you nancy, eva, doerte and jim :)

Weve been at this vet for over 10 years but have now left. My mums dog had an abscess on her anal glands which needed antibiotics and draining. This cleared up with antibiotics and the dog was well but the vet then kept making unnecessary appointments where nothing was done whatsoever, which obviously kept costing my mum money. I also had a similar experience with my hamster a few years ago when it was seriously ill with a big abscess in its mouth and couldn't eat or drink or move and was just lying there and was an old hampster. Instead of saying it should be put to sleep the vet gave me antibiotics to give it which obviously cost more money. These made absolutely no difference and it was suffering so much I took it back to the vet in a few days and saw another vet who was shocked at the size of the abscess and state of the hamster and said it needed to be put to sleep. The size of the abscess was the same size as when I initially took it 2 days before. Now this second thing has happened with my mum I just dont trust them at all.

Brought my young labrador here as one of the vets transferred from our local vets and I honestly can't rate all the staff enough. As soon as you arrive at reception they are all so lovely. They make a fuss of the animals when they arrive and are genuinely lovely. My girl has a few issues, to say the least, so we have many trips to the vets and I honestly can't recommend this vets enough. She was spayed a couple of days ago and the care they gave her was amazing. They talked us through what would happen. She is recovering very well and would highly recommend this vets if you are looking xx Thank you all so much ❤️

Amazing care for our very sick cat. She's doing much better thanks to this team of vets especially Nancy. She is so caring with Lexie and ourselves and that means so much when your furbaby is sick. We are so grateful to you. Thank you x

I hate leaving negative reviews, but I feel they are just as necessary as good reviews so that people can make informed decisions and hopefully the practice can take on board the feedback and improve. My family used this practice for two decades so we decided to join with our fur baby. Unfortunately it’s not how it used to be, Nancy who used to see to our dogs led with compassion and you could tell she had a gentle approach with animals. Sadly in recent years we’ve said goodbye to two family dogs and the vets now didn’t handle this quite as we’d have expected when it’s a difficult time, no sensitive approach. Positives: The prescription service for fleeing and worming is always delivered efficiently and the annual booster vaccines are always sent by reminder. The monthly pet plan isn’t too expensive. I’ve never had a positive experience with the reception team, the phone lines open at 9am and at 9.10am they still say they are closed until nine with an automated message. Most animals sense where they are when it comes to the vets so leaving you stood at the desk with them whilst they talk to other staff instead of checking you in is not ideal. The waiting area is extremely small and can get overcrowded quickly which is hard when your dog isn’t the best around others and the vets often run behind. On our most recent visit the vet barely tried to calm my anxious dog down, he didn’t speak to him with any care and I honestly got the impression he didn’t like small dogs, he muttered my concerns and refused to look inside my dogs mouth and said ‘he doesn’t want to have his hand taken off’ as my dog was snarling slightly. What dog likes the vet? Or anyone going near their mouth? It was an extremely hot day so my dog was panting which made him more stressed, the vet didn’t even attempt to look at him properly and was quick to offer sedation. Why… I presume because it makes them more money. He recommended steroids based off what I had said without any further checks, which I found alarming. I went for a second opinion at a different vets and the reception team and vets spoke to Reggie with respect, if your an animal lover you’ll understand what I mean by that, he was the calmest I’ve seen him in this circumstance and they understood his needs with his anxiety, they muzzled him gently and he didn’t need steroids he has an allergy which required different meds. Sadly we have left this vets and hope the vet we dealt with can find his spark with his job again and try different approaches to better suit each animal.
